Pitru Paksha , also referred to as Shraddha Paksha , is a 16-day period that usually falls in the lunar month of Bhadrapada , which corresponds to September-October in the Gregorian calendar. It commences on the full moon day (Purnima) and concludes on the new moon day (Amavasya) of the same month, aligning with the second fortnight of the Hindu lunar calendar. The word Shraddha means “giving respect” and symbolizes offering reverence to the ancestors.
